The British Embassy in Tunis is looking to recruit a full-time Economist to join its Programme Team. Working at the British Embassy offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to grow professionally while collaborating with a talented group of individuals.
Based in Tunis, the successful candidate’s role will provide analysis and report on the Tunisian economy and economic policies for the British Embassy and UK government departments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide analysis and reporting on Tunisian economy and economic/financial issues to inform Embassy policymaking.
Represent and proactively influence on behalf of the Embassy at economic meetings both with Government institutions and International Financial Institutions.
Build and maintain a strong network of contacts including senior Tunisian officials and policy advisors, economists, International Financial Institutions.
Support economic reform through project management and oversight of bilateral programs as well as leading on the Deauville Transition Fund Projects, providing progress updates to Department for International Development. Provide detailed analysis and briefing ahead of the Deauville Transition Fund bi-annual steering committee.

Minimum Qualifications:
Essential:
Bachelors degree in Economics or a related discipline
At least 3 years experience as a professional economist in Government, think tank or industry,
Previous experience of project management
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in English and French
Desirable:
Understanding national and local political climate
Working with International Financial Institutions
Work inside of a Ministry of Finance or Central Bank
Working Hours and Remuneration:
Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00 am to 16:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. 08:00 – 13:00 on Fridays.
The British Embassy in Tunisia offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. Salary will be TND 4545 per month.
The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period. The appointment is also subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
